Coming from an Italian immigrant background, I’m fully aware of the difficulties associated with learning a foreign language.
I remember starting school as a 5-year-old in England and being the only child who couldn’t speak English. I cried so much, my poor mother often had to collect me from school because the teacher didn’t know how to stop me crying! Thankfully, I soon settled down, made friends and started learning.
When I came to Austria, I had to learn another language and those early memories came flooding back. I remember my tongue feeling too big for my mouth whenever I tried to speak German, the pronunciation of new words and sentences was so difficult! Today my tongue feels normal when I speak German and I can do my daily business and communicate with confidence.
As a language learner, I learnt to appreciate the importance of having tailor-made courses with a trainer who concentrated on my goals. As the founder and CEO of Focus Languages, this knowledge and experience gave me what I needed to make sure our courses suit our clients perfectly!

Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I remember being a bossy older sister who made her sister play “schools”. We “taught” our teddies many wonderous things!
It seemed as though I was destined to teach, but instead of studying to become a high school teacher I decided I wanted to explore a bit of the world first. I went to Japan to teach as a “native speaker” in a high school, I loved Japan and the opportunity it gave me to travel within Asia. I didn’t enjoy teaching within a school as much as I thought I would but I loved the adults I taught in the evenings.
I decided to qualify as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for Adults and taught in the UK and Slovakia before moving to Austria in 2011. This is when my enthusiasm for teaching adults in the business world grew. I found that by tailoring my teaching to the needs of the people in my courses, I could really make a difference to their working lives.
Now, as Managing Director of Focus Languages, I have the opportunity, not only to continue teaching and assessing the needs of our clients, but to also work with our team of trainers who also believe that a focused course is the best way to learn or improve a language.
